You all know what I am referring to and I’m sure you are as fed up as I am with all the parsing of common words to misrepresent something, someone or both. The parsing of commonly held words is stupid and will not be tolerated by the masses any longer! If an advertiser wants us to dance a jig or jump through hoops to receive their low cost, almost worth nothing, free or freebie item all they must do is simply say so. Rather than parsing of words to mean almost free or free if you are new to our service, or free for the taking but it will exclude you from future almost free or freebies items, just simply say so. Most adults are capable of understanding that you are a business because you want to feed your family. As adults most people don’t want you as a business to lose any money. As adults most people would like to know that you are making a fair profit and will be in business for years to come. As adults we simply wish for you to not parse words in an attempt to take advantage of anyone! We are giving you businesses, big and small, fair warning that we consumers are fed up with the parsing of words to take advantage of consumers and we are not going to let it continue any longer. We promise to embarrass you and your company if you continue in the future of parsing words to not mean what everyone takes them to mean. Just so that everyone is on the same page, we have listed what we understand these certain common words to mean.

If you were to walk along any street around the world, you would find it very difficult not to notice that someone somewhere is playing a game of Sudoku. This number puzzle game has become a hit not only with the British but Americans also.
However, although it is believed that Sudoku was invented in Japan it origins can actually be traced back to Switzerland. This puzzle is more often associated with an 18th Century Swiss Mathematical Genius by the name of Leonhard Euler. He invented a magic square which consisted of an 81 cell grid that the player was able to fill with an almost finite variation to it so that each row and column contained the digits 1 to 9 in them. But although the more recent and popular versions of Sudoku support the same 1 to 9 rule and have the 81 cell grid, the magic squares produced by Euler are not presented as a puzzle in his version and were merely an expression of his mathematical genius.
However, by the late 19th Century a French Daily Newspaper “Le Siecle” produced something that was almost like the game of Sudoku we know now, but rather than them using single digits (1-9) they preferred to use double digit numbers for the person to solve the puzzles they produced. But shortly afterwards another French Daily “La France” also came up with its own version of the puzzle being produced by “Le Siecle” which reverted to using the 1 to 9 system. Yet despite “La France” version following the same rules as the “Le Siecle” version it did not divide the 81 cells into grids of nine boxes. But much like today’s versions of the Sudoku puzzle the “La France” version always contained the numbers 1 to 9 in the areas where the sub-grids should have been, yet unlikely today’s puzzles which are published in today’s papers on daily basis, the La France version was only printed weekly up until the First World War began.
Following through the development of this now popular puzzle craze around the world, the game of Sudoku first gained an audience world wide in 1979. They were originally printed in Dell Magazines as part of their puzzle collections “Dell Pencil Puzzles and Word Games” and rather it being called Sudoku as it is known now, Dell put it in their magazines under the heading of “Number Place”. Yet although these puzzles still find an audience today, they are not as popular or widespread as Sudoku is because of the magazines limited circulation. Upon further investigation it was found that the author was a retired architect named Howard Garns and although the puzzles did not actually bear his name on them, a further investigation found that the Dell publications always named Garns as a contributor to these publications and those which always contained a game of Sudoku inside and those that did not have Sudoku puzzles inside then Garns name was omitted from the contributors list. Thus the puzzle of who the author of their Sudoku games was solved.
Then the development of Sudoku was found to suddenly shift from the West to the East and in 1984 Nikoli brought out the puzzle in Japan. The name Sudoku actually stands for the basic puzzle rule of the game, namely single digits only. Then other innovations were introduced in the original Garns invention such as the 32 digit clue restriction and the rotation of clues positions within the grids. Throughout Japan the Sudoku puzzles were being given a much wider circulation as they were being produced not only daily by also in magazines by various companies. But these others were being printed under different names as the Sudoku name had already been trademarked by the Niokli group.
But since its growing popularity around the world not only can you still find Sudoku being published daily (many newspapers now have games of Sudoku within their pages) and the large majority of magazines that are produced and contain only Sudoku puzzles, the computer industry has now joined the bandwagon. Computer programmers such as Loadstar Publishing were the first to produce a computer based version of Sudoku called “DigiHunt” and not long after this many other programmers and devoted Sudoku puzzle enthusiasts produced their own such programs such as Sudoku Puzzle Generators, Sudoku Solvers and now you can even play Sudoku online if you wish. Certainly there does not seem to be anything that will stop Sudoku because of the expanding audience that are now being enthralled by this puzzle.

January 1985 marks the beginning of America’s love affair with Ender Wiggin. It was that month that Ender’s Game was published, becoming an instant blockbuster, and “probably the most popular science fiction novel published in the last twenty years” (John Kessel). The child prodigy and ultimate savior of the earth, Ender Wiggin, had appeared seven years earlier in a short story published in the science fiction magazine Analog. Writer Orson Scott Card had spent much of his young life working in print, but had only set to writing science fiction when his meager salary as copy editor at a small press failed to pay a debt incurred from a failed business attempt. His magazine article won instant attention, and Orson Scott Card won the 1978 John C. Campbell Award for best new writer at the World Science Fiction Convention. But little Ender was destined for bigger things.
Orson Scott Card saw potential in his young protagonist and instantly set to work developing the short fiction into a longer work. Already he had two novels in mind, Ender’s Game and its sequel Speaker for the Dead, published the following year in 1986. Card made history by winning both the prestigious Nebula and Hugo Awards in both consecutive years. No other author has managed this feat to date (2006.) Since that time, Ender’s Game has been translated into sixteen languages, and spawned two series.
The first series includes Ender’s Game (1985), Speaker for the Dead (1986), Xenocide (1991), Children of the Mind (1996), and First Meetings (2002). The saga follows Ender as he grows into adulthood and deals with the moral and ethical issues presented in his childhood.
The second series starts with a parallel telling of the original Ender’s Game, but from the eyes of Bean. Titled Ender’s Shadow (1999), it is the first of the Shadow Series, followed by Shadow of the Hegemon (2001), Shadow Puppets (2002), and Shadow of the Giant (2005).
Ender’s Game has been called “the science fiction novel for people who don’t think they like science fiction.” Truly it appeals to a vast audience. It is on the list of top books for college-bound students, and has been adopted as required reading in numerous secondary schools and university classes. Card explains that the focus on the human story as it unravels, rather than the science fiction elements, is what gives the novel power among its readers. Essentially, Card says, readers must relate and care deeply about the characters. Beyond that, he admits that the use of computer networks and the “mind game” are features in the book that appeal to many readers.
Ender claimed the spotlight again in the late 1990s when rumor caught wind that a film was slated. Indeed, Warner Brothers announced in 2002 its plans to produce the film. Director Wolfgang Peterson, known for his most recent films Poseidon, Troy and The Perfect Storm, is joined by screenwriter David Benieff (Troy). The movie is expected to hit the theaters in 2008. After winning the top prizes offered in science fiction literature, one wonders what is still in store for Ender Wiggen.
